Finally - A Snowman

We actually left the house today! This is a big deal, as we usually hide out throughout the winter weekends. We had to run Jack to the kennel this morning for his stay with his buddies at the BP Pet Hospital while the rest of us go see a mouse who lives in Florida. After the kennel, we went to a waffle breakfast at the BP E Free church. I tell ya, Dad's Belgian Waffles are just the best ever. After eating our fill of waffles (Nicholas included) we ran a couple of errands in prep for our trip and football party tomorrow. The big kids were enjoying trying to stomp in puddles, and Nathan and I were just marveling at how nice it was.

Then, Nathan aimed a snowball at me.

Not good.

I don't do snowballs, especially when I'm holding a sleeping Nicholas.

So Nathan and the big kids went out back to play in the snow. They threw snowballs at James (OK, they threw snow at the window and James (inside) pretended to be 'hit') and me (also inside), made some snow angels, and made a snowman.

Here is the result:

I believe this snowman has a mate now. Abby was sent in after failing to listen to daddy, then Daddy and Daniel made another snow person.
It was a fun day!

Birthday celebration

It was Sunday before we were actually able to celebrate Nicholas's birthday. Daniel was convinced that it wasn't time to celebrate, because we had to wait for Friday (because we said all week - "Nicholas will be one on FRIDAY!"), but was excited to eat cake once he saw that cake would be part of the party.

Nicholas thought his cake was pretty interesting, but then we brought out his cupcake with a candle. That kid is going to burn the house down some day. As soon as he saw the candle he lunged for it, trying to grab at the flame. This is quite similar to how he behaved at his baptism when he tried to leap out of daddy's arms to grab his baptismal candle and the light of Christ. Luckily, mommy is pretty quick, so we were able to prevent major injuries.

We set Nicholas up in Daniel's usual seat with the big kids on either side. When the singing started, Nicholas looked swiftly from sister to brother and then seemed to realize that the singing was for HIM.

Happy 1st Birthday Nicholas

Today is Nicholas's first birthday. To celebrate, he woke me up at 5 a.m. Which is exacly when he woke me up last year. The difference is, this year I changed him, gave him a bottle and went back to sleep until about 7:15. Last year, between 5 and 7 I was in hard labor, Nathan was driving to the hospital and we barely made it in time for the little speedster to be born in the hospital. It is really amazing that I didn't give birth on I-94 in the Lowry Tunnel.
