Oh look, a castle

It's not worth doing unless it's worth OVERdoing. I should cross stitch that and hang it on my wall.
Rather than spend a couple hundred bucks on a Chuck E. Cheese or Pump It Up party for Abby's 5th birthday, we decided to have a 'home' party. She wanted to invite her whole 4Star class (20 kids), so we worked her down to just a few friends from school and the "usual gang" of friends. The theme... princesses of course. Have you met my kid?!

I can't remember how exactly it came about, but I do know that James started it. When discussing the party, games, etc. he turned to the fireplace and said, "You know what would be really cool? We could make a huge castle over there. Maybe cover the bookcase and make it look like a castle wall. Oh- we could deck out the kitchen cabinets, that would be cool." I think it started as a joke. Next thing we know, Nathan is measuring our large cardboard supply (don't ask) and we're making plans.

After several late nights to paint, cut and measure everything, we hd successfully kept the idea a secret from Abby. Friday night, everything went up. Saturday morning we tried to keep the kids upstairs so we could see their response. Although they made it down once or twice, they apparently didn't notice the new decor. Once we did... Abby just giggled. Kind of maniacly.
Our friends and guests didn't give us as difficult of a time as we had thought possible. But we think they let us off easy. The latest joke - if the castle went up for a birthday party on April 4, when will we take it down?
